About meAbout me
Hi, my name is Luisa Mai Märkl, thank you for visiting my website!
I’m a driven and aspiring game designer and a recent graduate from the University of the Arts, London where I acquired both my MA and BA Games Design degrees with distinction.
Throughout my studies, I was able to experiment in and gain a comprehensive understanding of the various fields of game design, including narrative design, level design, UI design, combat design, puzzle design, systems design, etc.. I have basic skills in C# coding and can proficiently use Unity and Ink (Inkle) to make anything from small mechanics prototypes to developed games.
My latest game, AnnaBelle (2023) is a 3D narrative puzzle game that follows an identity theft scheme and explores the relationship between players and player characters, a topic originally I researched and developed frameworks for in my MA Thesis “Alignment of Player and Player-Character Motivation in Narrative Video Games” (2023). Please check it out here
And while you’re at it, why not also take a look at my game Draft 15 (2022) which was nominated and shortlisted for the Creative Assembly Best Student Game 2022 award!
Besides making games, I also thoroughly enjoy researching and writing about them. While my MA Thesis explored the overlap of player and player-character motivation in narrative games, my BA Thesis focused on telling embedded narratives in open-world games. Check out more about my game research here! I also write creatively and samples of my writing or a creative writing portfolio are available on request.
Personally and outside of game design, I am an internationally and creatively minded person with strong organizational and analytical skills. I’ve lived in several countries and speak 5 languages, which I enjoy studying as a hobby. Coming from an artistic family, I also love music, dance, and literature and have always had a passion for combining art styles and media to tell immersive and captivating stories.
Thank you for reading about me, it was great to meet you!
