The Exorcist is a VR narrative and combat game inspired by Japanese and Chinese ghost stories and was made as a collaborative project (credits below). My roles in this project included producer, programmer, level designer, as well as assisting with narrative design.
The main challenge during the development of this game was the tutorialization of VR hand tracking mechanics, as well as their integration and contextualization into the narrative of the game. We used a 4 - act structure to help players navigate the space and mechanics step - by - step.
Through usage of VR hand - tracking in combination with quad shaders I was able to experiment with brand new, edge cutting technology and gain a deeper understanding of VR games as a whole.
Through my role as producer, I was also able to acquaint myself with various systems to organize and coordinate the team. Tools included Asana for task distribution and scheduling, the development of comprehensive and easily implementable playtesting records, and detailed to - do lists with clear prioritization for the team.
This game was developed between January and March 2023 as part of my final Game Design Masters degree submission and in collaboration with game designer Mo Wang, VR designers Sowilo Xiong and Kiana Liang, VFX desginer Shiqi (Will) Ma and sound design by Yilun Song.
